General

What is dye sublimation?

Dye sublimation is a form of heat transfer where the graphics are digitally printed and then heated to a gas that can then bond with the shirt fibres. The ink becomes fully infused into the fabric instead of just printed on the surface which results in a long-lasting, high-quality print that you can’t even feel!

What are the benefits of dye sublimation?

  • Lightweight and breathable - the fibres are dyed so nothing sits on top of the fabric
  • Super soft - you can’t even feel the print
  • Long lasting and durable - the colour is embedded into the fabric and does not fade or wash out, even after multiple washes
  • Unlimited colours - you can print full-colour photographic images
  • Outstanding detail - you can print super fine lines and the tiniest details
  • Small runs - there is minimal setup compared to screen printing, which makes it easy to do single prints and eliminates overproduction
  • Eco-friendly - sublimation doesn’t require a lot of water or create a lot of plastic waste like other printing methods. The only waste is recyclable paper!
  • Non-toxic - no harsh and harmful chemicals are used like in screen printing

What are the limitations of dye sublimation?

All printing processes have their drawbacks, but we think that the limitations of dye sublimation are not that bad!

  • Since the ink needs to dye the shirt threads and dark coloured shirts are already super dyed, you cannot print on dark shirts
  • Sublimation inks only bond with polyester fibres, therefore you cannot print on cotton shirts or material
  • Since you can only press what can be printed from a CMYK inkjet printer, you cannot print the colour white... but we don't usually need to anyway!

Can I wash/dry/iron my printed shirt?

Absolutely! Like all printed shirts, we recommend machine washing in cold water and either hanging to dry or drying on low so that your print can stay as fresh as the day we made it for you! You can also iron it on low, just not for too long! Heat is the enemy.

How many items do I need to order?

At No Guff, there are NO MINIMUMS! You can order as few as one item. We support the little guy - small orders and small business.

What is your turnaround time?

For items we keep in stock, our turnaround time is 2-3 days. For items we need to special order and larger orders, we need 7-10 business days. All items are either listed as "stocked" or "special order item". We are also happy to accommodate rush orders for an additional fee.

CUSTOM PRINTING

Is there a setup fee?

No way José! At No Guff there are NO SETUP FEES! Everything is already included in the price, unless we have to vectorize your artwork in order to be printable.

Why don't you have any black or dark shirts?

This is one of the minor limitations of dye sublimation printing. The ink needs to dye the shirt threads and dark shirts are already super dyed! That’s why it only works on light coloured shirts.

What are your art requirements?

We can work with most types of files, but vector files (SVG or AI) are the very best! The next best is a high resolution print quality image that is 300dpi or higher. Photographs from your smartphone are usually fine, but images from the internet will most likely look very pixelated. We can also vectorize your image or create new artwork for an additional design fee.

Can I supply my own stuff to print on?

Unless you have a light coloured shirt that is 100% polyester, then unfortunately the answer is no. We are also not responsible for misprints on any provided items. But we have lots of great items to choose from!

What if I don’t have the copyright to an image?

Unfortunately, if you don’t have the copyright, then we can’t print it. Printing and selling the shirt to you means we would profit off the copyrighted image and that is considered “negative use”. You don't want to get us in trouble do you??

What are your print sizes?

Most shirts and hoodies are printed with a 10.5” wide image unless otherwise specified. The largest we can print is 12”x18”. Pocket prints are between 3-4” wide, kids shirts are usually 8-9” wide and baby prints are typically about 5” wide.
